"Advertising Typographers  BOHME & BLINKMANN INC. Telephone Main 5388"

An unusual ruler is the next entry. Bohme & Blinkmann sold typeface by way of catalogs like the 1923 edition linked below. A help wanted add from them was placed in a paper in the late 1960's. No other information has come to light on the firm. The phone number "Main 5388" indicates an early date.

  1. My Great grandfather, Jacob Henry Bittel, owned a printing company in the Caxton Building in the 1920' & 1930', the only item I have from that time is a metal ruler with Bohme & Blinkmann name just like the wood yardstick, I don't have the name of his company, i just wondered if anybody had any other info. Thank you, David C. Bittel

    1. I'm sorry, I never expect anyone to respond to these. My best advice would be to keep trying google. Maybe information from a city directory or a trade publication will show up with his name in it.

Yardsticks are hard to count; if you have six of the same, then you obviously have copies or "doubles" if I go back to my baseball card days. But if you have three different sticks from Grant's Department Stores over half a century then they're counted as different. Then there is Carpet Barn who's growth can be traced through it's yardsticks. Start with a yardstick that lists the single location and then several more showing th...
